Many of my clients feel stressed out and worried that they don’t know the requirements to protect them from an employee lawsuit. They know something is missing, but they don’t know how to fix it. It definitely can keep you up at night. Especially when the average cost of an employee lawsuit nationally was $160,000 in 2017 for small to medium sized organizations (according to the 2017 Hiscox Guide to Employee Lawsuits). As the costs of everything has risen, and California’s court systems favor employees, the average employee lawsuit in California for 2022 is likely much more. In the Hiscox 2017 study, they noted that California employers have a 56.5% chance of an employee lawsuit.
As part of my community, I know how important HR compliance is to you, and I want to rest your fears. Over the last several years of providing advice and counsel to my clients while having my own business, I did a lot of 1:1 teaching as topics or issues came up where clients needed advice, as well as that background knowledge. I came to realize that I could better serve my clients by taking a step back and looking at HR compliance as a whole, and creating a full system for my clients, instead of only answering the individual questions as they come up.
